In Mrs. Green’s English class, students try to be polite. When Tom feels hot, he says, “Excuse me, may I open the window?” The teacher smiles and answers, “Yes, of course. Go ahead.”

Sara doesn’t understand an exercise. She raises her hand and asks, “Could you help me with number three, please?” Mrs. Green walks to her desk and explains the answer. At the end of the lesson, a student says, “Can I leave my book here?” The teacher replies, “I’m sorry, you can’t. You must take it home.”

Excuse me… May I…? Could you help me…? Can I…?

Escucha el diálogo en una tienda. Fíjate cómo el cliente pide ayuda y permiso de forma cortés.

Customer: Excuse me, could you help me, please? I can’t find the small notebooks. Shop assistant: Sure. They are on the second shelf, next to the pens. Customer: Thank you. And may I pay by card? Shop assistant: Yes, of course. You can pay by card or in cash.
